Lodging

We are the only heliskiing operation in the Valdez area that provides ALL INCLUSIVE PACKAGES.

Yep, that includes lodging with the most basic comforts running water not requiring a pale and nearby river to the new hi-tech junky's life line of wireless internet.

Our helicopter and snowcat guests stay in a comfortable lodge type atmosphere with all facilities, hot tubs, banquet meals, and easy walking access to the town of Valdez hot spots.

Our facilities are within one block of most of the popular night life and shops. In fact we are within one block of everything in the town of 2500 inhabitants. We see ourselves as much more than just a guided helicopter taxi service that many have come to equate with heliskiing in Valdez. From the moment you set foot off of the plane, you'll find that our service and accomodations, attitude and atmosphere are nothing less than first class Alaska! "Our Clients are our friends and our friends our Clients"

Gourmet Meals

Upon return to the lodge, dinner will be served. We are delighted to offer the freshest seafood from the richest waters in the world. Alaskan halibut, salmon, and crab are world-renowned.

We take pride in our gourmet faire both on and off the mountain. While skiing or boarding, you can expect a satisfying lunch designed to please the palette and boost your energy during the second half of the day. Famed chef Annie Young and her staff invite you personally to her table each night!

Equipment

We use only the best when it comes to equipment.

- Eurocopter AS 350 A-Star Helicopters
- Atomic and Dynastar powder skis and Burton Snowboards
- Snowcat - owned and operated by us

Safety

Our professional guide staff has extensive experience in mountain safety and emergency medical training. Each guide carries a backpack stocked with light rescue gear and a first aid kit. The radio dispatcher tracks the ski day and should emergency arise is able to relay appropriate equipment and support. Should evacuation become necessary you will be financially responsible for costs incurred. Please be sure your medical insurance covers this type of rescue.

All skiers and boarders are given instruction in the use of avalanche tranceivers and search techniques before they travel into the mountains. We strongly encourage you to become familiar with beacons, probes, shovels, rescue procedures and basic mountain safety before you venture into the back country with anyone.

Can I Do This? Our primary mission is to bring the terrain of the Chugach Mountains to you at a comfortable and safe level. The basic requirements for your ability and fitness are these. You should be fit and at minimum an advanced intermediate skier or snowboarder. That is, you can ski/ride a variety of snow conditions with confidence and minimal difficulty. If this is true of you and your abilities, we are just the introduction to big mountain skiing you have been waiting for! We also recommend that you experiment at your local ski area with wide base powder or all mountain skis. If you would like to be provided powder skis you should inform us at your time of reservation.

What About the Weather?

Valdez, Alaska consistently receives more snowfall than any other area in the whole of North America! Warm Japanese currents push into the open Prince William Sound seaport Village of Valdez, bringing with them warm moist air. These same currents that keep Valdez uniquely mild in winter, build and flow over the Chugach Mountains, eventually mixing with the cooler interior Alaska weather currents producing amazing snowfall amounts. Although large amounts of snow are what we dream of, sometimes it keeps us at bay.

On days we are unable to fly, or helicopter operations are delayed by weather conditions yet skiing conditions are still favorable, we will utilize snowcats to access 4100 vertical feet/1280 vertical meters of terrain.

Important Info you should know

The heliskiing and snowboarding opportunities found here are second to none and offer much variety. We tend to attract a high caliber of skier/rider. Several of our groups visit us specifically for the steeper slopes that Valdez is famous for. The responsibility of utilizing these slopes quite often dictates that we ski one at a time to minimize exposure to any hazards that may exist on slopes such as these. Accessing the type of terrain that produces the high quality experience we strive to provide to our guests can often mean more time is required to negotiate a slope. This can equate to less vertical over the course of a day or a week than one might find at a typical heliski operation. The great benefit is found in the quality of a very unique and challenging skiing experience. One like you will find in no other place.

The satisfaction of challenging yourself at a high level with the security of a small professionally guided team, just 4 riders of the same ability, offers a much more enjoyable experience than could be expected where the focus trends toward maximum vertical calculation for the operator to bill out. Racking up run after run along side several people of varying abilities, in some instances, as many as 10 or 11 people in a group does not compare to what is available with us.

This is one of the most important reasons why skiing in Valdez with us has gained the reputation it has throughout the world!

For those that do enjoy the freedom of wide-open slopes skiing and snowboarding side by side with friends and comrades nothing is sacrificed with us! We can quite easily provide for this level of desire. We accommodate several first-time heliskiers and those whose goals are to put up the big vertical numbers that are produced by "lapping up the Chugach" in one of our very fast A-Stars helicopters. These less technical slopes can offer a higher level of security allowing us to achieve large amounts of vertical for those with a preference for this type of experience. Our guests often choose this option and ski on the same day in areas directly adjacent to those groups working the high angle terrain. Quite often you can watch other groups from across the valley challenging the Chugach while you are doing the same at your level or, mix it up bit, with some steep challenging runs and some powder cruisers of your own!!!!

Explaining the Heliskiing Package Vertical Guarantee: The amount of vertical achieved in a week depends on conditions and the group's desired experience. The guarantees of 40,000, 50,000 and 80,000 feet are based on historical averages and used for creating a base price for your trip. On average our groups will achieve 80,000 feet in a typical week accessing our steep technical slopes. Many riders that prefer more open powder skiing, on slopes of higher relative security may easily ski more than 100,000 in a week. An average ski day from the helicopter will produce 20,000 vertical feet. If we consider that we may expect 4 out of 6 days in an average week of flying we arrive at 80,000 feet for a base price for the 6-day 7-night package. This same thought process applies to the 3 and 4 day packages and their relative guarantees. This formula has proven to give our guests a very realistic expectation of the total amount they will be spend on their stay with us. Seldom do extra vertical charges or credits exceed $500 in value as observed over our 10 years of experience with our pricing system.

Explaining the Snowcat Alternative: With the large amounts of snow that blanket the Chugach Mountains surrounding Valdez each year, it should be expected that there will be weather days that prevent heliskiing during your stay. With us, this is not a concern to you reaching the mountains. On those snowy days you can expect to be skiing from one of our heated and comfortable Pisten Bully snowcats. Our Snowcat terrain ranges in elevation from 500' to 4200' above sea level with the longest single runs producing over 3100 vertical feet of skiing. The terrain also offers some treed areas for good visibility on the stormiest low light days as well. A normal snowcat ski day will produce 12-14,000 feet of skiing and for heliski package clients utilizing their guaranteed seat in the snowcats on these days we debit the vertical account just 9,000 feet for this service to you. * It is important to remember that from the snowcat alternative at any time should the weather change, we will immediately vault to the helicopters to continue the ski day heliskiing. No helicopter ski service known to us can provide such an option to all of its guests each day of their stay and is all part of our inclusive service to you.

While researching your heliskiing package options around the world remember that;

· Only we can offer this combination of incredible terrain and daily access by helicopters or snowcats.

· Our Snowcats are at your disposal and require no additional commitment or cost to you to have this alternative for skiing or riding on days when others are "stopped in their tracks. "

· The fastest reaction time to improving flying weather takes you to the helicopters at the first available opportunity right from your snowcat in just minutes.

· Vertical guarantees mean you pay for the skiing your group achieves, no ferry costs or premiums if we must travel further from our base to the best snow and terrain while you are with us. Find this nowhere but with us!

· Extra vertical charges of just $23 dollars per thousand feet reward our package guests.

All heliskiing adventures demand that the client share a risk of difficult weather on their visit. We are unique to the industry by including our snowcat alternative to your heliski package with no additional commitment. Our all-inclusive package guests have a guaranteed seat in both the helicopters and snowcats each day of their stay. We feel that it is equally fair that should we experience exceptionally good conditions and our basic operating commitments are met, we should reward our guests with the low cost option to ski as much as you can on your visit.
